As we enter a new faith formation year, I want to welcome all the children, parents, and teachers to another CCD year. God calls each and every one of us, and it is through faith that we are able to listen and respond to Him. Catechism facilitates this process by helping the children grow and strengthen in their faith so they can fulfill God’s plan for them and be an instrument for His glory.

Catechism starts at a young age from the home itself. Parents are the first catechists and they have a great impact in shaping the faith of their kids. For example, children learn from their parent’s little actions and behaviors, including family prayer, traditions, and their attitude towards the Church community. Children grow according to the role models they see in their day-to-day lives.

Beyond the parents, catechists play an important role in shaping the faith of the younger generations. Catechism is a blessed way for the children of our church to grow together in faith. CCD teachers help sow the seed of faith in our children and that seed grows and bears fruits in our lives and the lives of others. Catechists aim to help kids know and develop a personal and loving relationship with Jesus. Thus, we are transforming the lives of the younger generations to grow closer with God and understand Him.

helps mold our children into the kind, respectful, and faithful people our community and world needs. One aspect that is crucial within Catechism is the Holy Qurbana. Indeed, the Holy Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life” (CCC 1324). With the joint effort of the parents and the catechists, we must place the Holy Qurbana at the center of our children’s lives and lead our kids to love and enjoy the meaning and celebration of this sacrament to the fullest extent.

Indeed, with the parents, CCD teachers, and all of the Church community, let us all make an investment in our children and guide them along their paths of becoming a better version of themselves that God willed for them to be.

Pope Francis once said, “Catechists are people who keep the memory of God alive; they keep it alive in themselves and they are able to help revive it in others.”
So, just as Pope Francis taught us, we CCD teachers will work towards reviving the faith in our children so they grow closer to the Lord everyday. With that, we welcome all the parents, CCD teachers, and children to another fun-filled and faith-enriched CCD year of 2023- 2024! As Mathew 19:14 states, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
